Cailabs TILBA-OGS
Cailabs develops, manufactures and supplies optical ground stations to its customers and partners. TILBA-OGS is an industrial optical ground station that meets industry standards and the specific requirements of space-to-ground links. Designed for secure, robust and spectrum license-free bidirectional links at 10 Gbps and higher, optical ground stations overcome the main technical limitations of standard radio-frequency signals currently used for space communications.
Cailabs’ expertise in optical communications enabled the company to develop components to maximize the link budget for transmission and reception. Three unique technology building blocks based on the patented Multi-Plane Light Conversion technology optimize the performance of our OGS.
TILBA-ATMO is integrated into TILBA-OGS stations. This unique atmospheric turbulence mitigation component improves the reception of optical links passing through the atmosphere.
TILBA-IBC, based on spatial diversity at transmission, is used by our optical ground stations to improve the robustness of beacons and transmitted links during atmospheric turbulence, while increasing the range.
TILBA-CBC, through coherent combining, extends the range and throughput of transmission links, overcoming the current limitations of telecom sources. As a result, this technology enables very high-throughput feeder uplinks.
Last but not least, Cailabs’ stations are compatible with CCSDS or SDA standards, and are agnostic in terms of data rate, protocol or modulation format.
Applications:
- Space-baced telecommunicantions
- Earth Observation
Cailabs’ optical ground station:
guaranteed experience and know-how
Confirming its leadership in ground receiving solutions, the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, Defense Innovation Agency (AID) and Defense Procurement
Agency (DGA) engaged Cailabs to work on the Keraunos project. The aim of the project is to implement and operate an end-to-end optical link: from the satellite terminal,
embedded in a nano-satellite designed and launched in low earth orbit by the company Unseenlabs, to the ground.
Cailabs has designed and manufactured a first pilot optical ground station at its premises in Rennes, a key step in the Keraunos project and also in the development of the company’s business activities.
This achievement makes Cailabs one of the first private companies in Europe to own and operate an optical ground station. Since 2022, Cailabs has been in a position to experiment
the reception of data by optical satellite communication.

SSC (Swedish Space Corporation) and CONTEC (the Korean company offering space ground station services
and satellite image processing and application services) chose Cailabs for their first optical ground station, ordering a TILBA-OGS.
Cailabs operates one of the first 10+ Gbps ready OGS
for laser communication with LEO satellites
